Combination Different Therapies
Mesothelioma is a dreadful form of cancer. The modern medical science has been failed to find out ways to cure this disease. At present whatever treatment is available to address this disease is not sufficient. The mode of treatment can only check the progress of the disease, cannot cure it. However the doctors around the world are trying to find out newer means of treatment. Traditionally radiation therapy is regarded as an effective way to treat the mesothelioma. As a result, mesothelioma patients from different parts of USA are given radiation therapy. Such radiation therapy is given to the patent, who is unable to bear the pain of the disease. The radiation therapy kills the affected cells and hence further growth of the disease is checked. But of late this mode of treatment is replaced by another mode of radiation therapy, which we call proton therapy.
The radiation therapy is associated with some inherent problem. It causes acute pain to the patient; more importantly in the process of radiation it damages the healthy cells of the affected area. As we know, the radiation therapy is a process in which, a high-powered radioactive ray is directed towards the cancer-affected area and this ray kills the defective cells. But the proton therapy has over come the problem associated with the traditional radiotherapy. This process of proton therapy is more effective and causes no harm to the healthy cells of the patient. However, in recent times, the medical experts use both the traditional radiation therapy and proton therapy combined. This combination is not means for every patient. Such combination of therapies is adopted for the patients who has large chunk of tumor. When the doctor feels that the tumor cannot be destroyed either radiation therapy or proton therapy alone, he advises to use the both.
