How to Give Proton Therapy
Radiation therapy is one of the known modes of treatment of mesothelioma. However, by this method the disease can nor be cured, but can help to control. In recent years the effectiveness of traditional radiotherapy is not well accepted. There are so many side effects are associated with it. If you are thinking of radiotherapy, you must feel free of talking about the side effects of it. However, the effectiveness of this mode alone is doubted. This mode of radiotherapy is generally used with surgery. But in recent time, the physicians all over the world now think of the alternative mode of therapy, which we call proton therapy.
Though both proton therapy and radiation therapy works on the same principle, but their efficacy and out come s are quite different. This proton therapy, the physicians have better control over the process in an effective way. The traditional radiation therapy lacks the charge and mass to arrest the affected tissue and more importantly it affects beyond the targeted area and thereby killing the healthy cells. But under the mode of proton therapy, the energized ray kills exactly. Therefore the way of giving proton therapy is most important. To give this therapy, a three dimensional information is required; which is obtained by CT scan of the area of interest. The image of heart, lungs, pelvises are taken at an interval of 2 to 3 mm. Before the CT scan a device of immobilization is made for the patient.
However, the entire process of proton therapy must be given to the patient under the supervision of a qualified doctor. The doctor will decide how and when the therapy will be given to the patient.
